Chautauqua Institution, a cultural community located in Western New York State with its characteristic Victorian architecture, has served as inspiration to me for my paintings over 20 years. The subjects I paint include the Chautauqua Lake waterfront with its emblematic Bell Tower, the ubiquitous turn of the century porches arranged with wicker furniture and gladiolas, as well as the many historic public buildings.
The Wright Watercolors series is comprised of twelve paintings made over five years of study and interpretation of Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural creations in Western New York State. The paintings, 2003 – 2009, have been titled by impression of these structures in lieu of their official names.
I am very interested in a wide range of subjects from still life objects in my studio to scenes discovered during extensive travel in this country and abroad. My travel workshops for artists have been conducted in Costa Rica, France, Italy and Spain. The paintings that have resulted from these excursions have been included in solo and group exhibitions throughout the country.
