NEW WATERCOLORS are on view in The Wearhouse, Colonade, Chautauqua Institution, Chautauqua N.Y.
June – August, 2010.

I produced a new Chautauqua Poster featuring the Hall of Philosophy, Victorian cottages, the Turner Sailing Club, and the Chautauqua Bell Tower. It is avalable in the Chautauqua Bookstore and The Wearhouse.

The Peter A. and Mary Lou Gallery in Canisius College Library will host my exhibition RECALLING, October 1 – 29, 2010 featuring drawings and watercolors made from the Chautauqua Institution Conference in the former Soviet Union nearly 25 years ago. The original sketches were reproduced and given as the official gift to the U.S.S.R. Embassy in Washington, DC.

Arts Council to honor Ritter-Lester’s legacy during annual luncheon

The Buffalo and Erie County Arts Council selected Rita Argen Auerbach the Achievement in the Arts Outstanding Individual Artist Award at the March 20, 2009 Annual Awards Program held in the Grand Ballroom of the Adams Mark Hotel, Buffalo, New York

The U.S. State Department “Art in the Embassies Program” selected three paintings from the Buffalo Architectural Series enstalled in the Embassy at the Republic of Cape Verde for the three year tour of Ambassador Marrianne Myles who is originally from the Buffalo area.

The painting “Chautauqua Classic” on my website Gallery page, is selected for the back cover of Great Lakes Seaway Journey, 2007-2008. The magazine has 200,000 copies printed and provides site information from Erie, PA to the St. Lawrence River, NY ending at the border of Canada.

“Buffalo Architectural Series” of 10 giclee prints have been acquired for the permanent collection of the New York State Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics & Life Sciences, 701 Ellicott Street, Buffalo, NY

Burchfield Penney Art Center commissioned two watercolor interpretations of the new museum on Elmwood Avenue and Rockwell Roads, Buffalo NY. Designed by the architectural firm of Gwathmey Siegel & Associates, this state of the art building opened in November, 2008. The museum is dedicated to the art and vision of Charles E. Burchfield and distinguished artists of Buffalo-Niagara and Western New York State. Through its affiliation with Buffalo State College, the museum encourages learning and celebrates the richly creative and diverse community.

Watercolor Workshops

My One-day Watercolor Workshops will be available in 2010 at Chautauqtua Institution Wednesdays July 7, July 21, August 4, August 18. 9:00 AM – 1:15 PM. All skill levels of painters are invited to a full immersion in the ellusive and exciting medium of watercolor. Each class will work from a variety of Chautauqua themed subjects following a demonstration. Personal instruction throughout the day will be concluded with a group critique. These classes will be listed “Master Class” , but you don’t have to be the master until the workshop is over.

I presented a one day Watercolor Workshop Saturday, May 8, PLEIN AIR PAINTING & PICNIC IN THE PARK at the Burchfield Penney Art Center open to all levels of painters. This is a celebration of watercolor during the exhibition “Heatwaves in a Swamp, Watercolors by Charles Burchfield” in the main galleries. All materials are included, however bring your own folding chair and your own lunch. Time; 10:30 AM – 2:30 PM.

“New Views”, Watercolors Exhibition at Insite Gallery, 810 Elmwood, Buffalo NY, April 25 May 27, 2008. This display presents images depicting significant architectural sites seen from a worms-eye view illuminated against a dramatic night sky. Large paintings as well as small ink and watercolor sketches are included for exhibition.

Watercolors on loan from over 50 collections of Chautauqua residents comprised the exhibition RITA ARGEN AUERBACH: Celebrating 25 Years of Painting Chautauqua, June 25 – July 7, 2006. This exhibition sponsored by the Chautauqua Center for the Visual Arts opened the 2006 Summer Season in the newly renovated Logan Art Gallery on Bestor Plaza in Chautauqua Institution, New York. Paintings are from the collections of Smuckers Corp., and The Charles Rand Penney Collection of Western New York Art in the Burchfield-Penney Art Center among many others.

Also on display was the original sketchbook made by Auerbach as a delegate to the 1986 Chautauqua/Eisenhower Conference on US/Soviet Relations in Riga, Latvia. The published book “Sketches and Reflections of a Journey”, by Auerbach includes these images. Selected reproduced sketches became the official Chautauqua gift to the Soviet Friendship Society.

The Artistry of Rita Argen Auerbach is the exclusive venue in Chautauqua Institution for my original artwork. The paintings are inspired by many years spent in Chautauqua and are available during the summer season in Pat’s at Chautauqua located in the Chautauqua Wearhouse, Colonnade Building, 716-357-4629.

I had the distinct honor of painting in Claude Monet’s gardens in Giverny, France where I produced The Giverny Series. These eight watercolors are the collection of the Spencer Hotel, Chautauqua and are on public view in the lobby.
